HELP!

The EF81 has the worst SMS system I have seen! There is no support for MPM or other software to manage the SMSes. There is not even possible to store the SMSes to the SIM card so that you may use a "normal" phone to archive them to a computer. Does anyone have a solution for this?

On the USP forum there are indications that the Bitpim program is able to read the file system of the EF81, but there are also indications that this is the ONLY functionality one may hope for, see http://www.usp-forum.de/community/board/showthread.php?t=16310
So has anyone succeeded in managing SMSes on the EF81?

I am sorry for posting in English, but I read German far better than I write!

Thanks a million!

Thanks for the tips!

It was a pain downloading the SXG75 controller since the links given in the cited forum on Modopo did not work. I had the same negative result on another forum, however Google gave me the following site where I eventually (10th attempt or so) managed to get a proper ZIP file:http://www.slunecnice.cz/product/SXG75-Controller/

I have now downloaded and installed the SXG75 controller, the Kommunikatór and the PDU Spy. With the EF81 the observations are as follows

SXG75 controller: Will read SMSes in the phone and allows them to be backed up. However, it does not support writing SMSes back to the phone for later sending, and it fails to properly decode some messages with accents (even though the characters are in the standard set like é or ŕ)
Kommunikatór: Much the same as the SXG75 controller. It is slightly worse in the message decoding and fails on more messages. The very Czech interface makes it hard to operate (even though some buttons have been translated to English it really does not help much)
PDU Spy: A brilliant program allowing complete control of the SMS protocol parameters. This makes it a little cumbersome to use, but after reading the SMS standard it is possible to understand... For reading SMSes off the phone, it has an automatic mode that works well and the SMSes can be archived to the PC. It correctly decoded all my messages! It also supports writing SMSes back to the phone - in theory: The PDU Spy confirmed a successful writing with a slot number for the SMS, the SMS appears as "Sent" in the SMS readout panel, but it is not visible in the phone! Thus, it may be stored in the phone, but when the message is inaccessible it can not be sent later.

Hurrah! My problem is partly solved: I can read and back up my SMSes. Now it only remains to find a way to save draft SMSes in the phone for later sending when the phone is not connected to a computer. Has anyone succeeded to do this with the EF81 and some of these programs?

Thanks a million for more help!

I am so happy!!!!

It proved that the PDU Spy was able to do the upload also, however one should pay close attention to the following

Run PDU Spy with the "-enablefulllength" switch
Make sure that the SMS relay centre is set correctly to the SMS relay centre of your SIM card in the tab "Create". Hint: You may edit the PDUSpy.ini file to have the drop-down menu show your numbers!
Make sure that you select "SIM Card" as the storage in the tab "Automatic" and press "Read" before you try to to store a message. PDU Spy seems capable of storing messages also to the phone memory, however I have found no way to make them visible in the phone.
You may also want to set the validity of the message in the "Settings" tab. I use relative and 255 which is the maximum duration, but perhaps not supported by all providers.
Store the message using the Save button on the "Create" tab
The big magic: Reboot your phone... The message is visible in PDU Spy immedeately, it is stored in the phone, but the stupid software in the phone does not detect messages in the SIM card exept at boot time.

Except for the necessary reboot which is an annoyance, this works fine and allows you to store up to the capacity of your SIM card messages (for me 15, which is on the low side, but sufficient). The above even works over a Bluetooth serial port.

Note that you can not send one of these stored messages directly, you will first have to open it for "edit" (but make no changes) and then send it. This is another mystery feature of the EF81.

Thanks a million for all the good help I have had from the community on this issue, and my most grateful wishes to all of you and to the creator of PDU Spy who is much more capable software developer than the ignorants making the MPM!
